There is no legal requirement for signage in New Zealand on private property. However the vast majority of private land owners do provide some sort of signage which illustrates the risks and conditions of parking on private property. Any signage provided is done so as a courtesy by the property owner and is not up to the towing company to make sure these are displayed.
If you park on private property without the authority from the property owner or their tenant this is unauthorised parking. It is up to the driver to ascertain whether or not they should be parking there. If there is any doubt in your mind, park elsewhere.
NZ law makes provision for a towing release fee to be charged prior to the release of any towed vehicle. Many dispute tribunal cases have set the standard in relation to tow fees and are not out of alignment with other private towaway companies. They are higher than standard point to point tows owing to the extra costs involved. For this reason, they tend to be around the same price as insurance crash tows.
We are required by law to adhere to the Transport Services Licensing Act 1989 and the Land Transport Act 1998, and any other relevant legislation. These are monitored by the Land Transport New Zealand and New Zealand Police.
Along with payment in full for the towing fee, and any applicable storage fees, we will require some form of identification. If the vehicle remains in our custody for more than 21 days, we commence disposal proceedings to recover our costs.
In the case that we are in the process of loading, lifting or hooking up your vehicle, we usually reduce our fees to cover any call out and administration costs. The driver will ring the office to either to payment over the phone or you can give the driver cash.
We accept cash and EFTPOS
